“Excellent Support for Local Dispersal”
Following the decision by Clive and Maureen Keevil to give up milk production their dairy herd was dispersed on Tuesday May 22nd at Ingsdon Farm, Bodden, Shepton Mallet. The cows were predominately home bred and well managed by the vendor and were of a good Friesian Holstein type. Most were in calf to Friesian and Belgian Blue nominated sires and the herd was NMR recorded. Demand for this super genuine herd was strong and a number of buyers attended from Carmathenshire, Pembrokeshire, Buckinghamshire, Cornwall and Gloucestershire as well as of course many local farming clients.
Trade was very fast and a number of excellent prices were achieved. The sale comprised of 155 milking cows together with 11 in calf heifers and 43 bulling heifers and yearlings. 35 cows were sold in excess £1000! 1st lactation heifers averaged £971, 2nd £929, 3rd £899, and fourth £692, culminating in a terrific overall average of £801. Young stock saw no shortage of bidders with everyone wanting these super types. Bulling heifers averaged £535 and yearlings £435. Top spot of the day was £1,260 reached on no less than 3 separate occasions and were all in calf to Cook-Farm Detective.
