“Sun Shine” at Mere Down
Finally, after one of the wettest summers on record the sun graced us with it’s presence at Mere Down Farm on Monday 15th September where, Cooper & Tanner conducted one of the finest dispersal sales of the year. Following the sudden death of Mr Colin Coward in August of last year the tenancy has come to an end and the quality machinery and top grade continental Suckler herd came under the auctioneers hammer. Although harvesting is still being completed a vast crowd attended the sale to give support to Mrs Myrine Coward and her family. “With such quality equipment and livestock on offer it was not surprising to see this tremendous crowd of bidders and buyers today” said machinery auctioneer Trevor Rowland. The sunshine certainly put a “feel good” factor in to the prices achieved. Buyers travelled long distances from Durham, West Wales and Cornwall to bid for the superb Charolais and Simmental Suckler cows with spring born Charolais, Blonde and Angus calves at foot. Prices in excess of £1200 were regularly achieved by auctioneer Chris Eden selling to a top price of £1400. Machinery was selling at the highest of levels going to Ireland as well as local and away buyers.
