“Good Demand on the Mendips”
Thursday 9th July saw auctioneers Cooper& Tanner conduct a dispersal sale of modern and vintage farm machinery at “Simbriss Farm” Oakhill for vendor Mr Brian West. Having taken over the farm from his father in 1973 Brian has continued to run the holding as a model dairy unit until poor health prompted his decision to retire earlier this year.
As expected in this close community a very large attendance was evident and strong bidding ran throughout the duration of the sale. Auctioneer Trevor Rowland said “a good attendance was always expected as Brian and his family are very well known and respected in the area. A good variation of modern and vintage machinery always produces some very competitive bidding!”
Top spot in the vintage section was for a Bale Elevator circa 1930’s manufactured by Wallis Tit & Co which sold to £500, while the 1976 MF 168 Tractor & Loader doubled it’s original purchase price to £4,100.
Principal Prices:
MF168 2wd Tractor c/w Power Loader, Fork & Bucket £4,100
Ruscon 1100 Slurry Tanker £2,750
Hutton Legg 1552 Rotaspreader £1,400
