Stellar results from our recent sales hero

The hot weather at the end of July brought some scorching results for our second Jewellery, Silver & Watches Sale of the year. Yet again the watch section of the sale performed very well with some great results including a gentleman’s 1970s Omega De Ville which sold for £4,200 on the hammer after competitive bidding from the room and the telephone. Another fantastic result was an 18ct white gold gentleman’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust on leather strap selling at £5,800. Other highlights of the sale were a vintage gold David Webb articulated bracelet selling at £6,300; a heavy antique 18ct gold watch chain which sold for £4,800 and a tanzanite and diamond three stone ring that sold at £2,300 (please note, all prices are before Buyer’s Premium).

In June we had a bumper Antique, Collectable and Interiors Sale with over six hundred lots of furniture, paintings, jewellery, silver and many other items. A single owner collection of framed Dan Dare artwork by the artist Frank Hampson brought interest from around the world with lots going to France and Italy as well as within the UK. On the same day as our Antiques Sale, we held a NASA and Space Race Sale; this included various signed photographs and first day covers, artwork by astronauts and other related items. One of the most interesting lots was a colour photograph of the first US space walk by Ed White on 3rd June 1965, taken by Gemini commander Jim McDivitt, during the Gemini 4 mission, signed in black ink by Ed White and Jim McDivitt. His walk lasted 23 minutes and when ordered back to the capsule White said: “It’s the saddest moment of my life”.

Our September sale will see a fantastic array of coins offered for sale as discussed in our last newspaper edition. There will also be jewellery, silver, furniture, paintings and collectables. Some lots to look out for are a pair of 19th century blue and white Chinese vases and covers, decorated throughout with blossoms, prunus and cartouches depicting precious objects, estimated at £250-350; a Franz Bergman cold painted bronze figure of a partridge with an estimate of £300-400 and three watercolours by the Burmese artist Maung Saya Saung. Saung was an early Burmese watercolourist, he adopted the western style of painting and was famous for his landscapes. He was given the honorific title Saya, meaning master; this was a title normally reserved for painters of the Traditional School in Burma.
