'The Lamp Man' Lighting collection success

'The Lamp Man' Lighting collection success hero
Our Sale Rooms specialist sale of lamps – Roger Price “The Lamp Man” single owner collection – was a roaring success with all lots sold. Highlights of the day include a Tilley table lamp with Bretby glazed pottery base selling on the hammer, after competitive bidding from the telephone, online and the room, for £1,400; a Tilley Hendon inspection lamp selling for £650; and a large handheld lantern by George Elt Ltd that sold for £480. The top lot of the day was a much anticipated Tilley Challow station or yard suspension lamp, heated competition between a telephone and room bidder meant that the hammer fell at £1,600. Lots were sold all over the world including Thailand, Russia and others.

Roger Price collected lamps for many years and his main focus was Tilley lamps. These lamps were developed in the early 20thcentury to provide a source of light away from mains gas or electricity. They have had a real revival in the last few years especially in Japan and Thailand.
